ALZHEIMER’S-Learning To Read Between The Lines

Poetry

At first, they put up
a good front–
hide the memory lapses,
explain away
the inconsistencies–
until one day
you know for sure.
The birthday check
scrawled on a deposit slip.
The question asked:
Which book am I reading?
Then you realize
what you’ve known all along:
you were willing participants
in the deception.
